  Ash Sharma  
Ash Sharma - Senior Director, Solar Research
Ash Sharma is the Senior Director for the IHS solar research practice, overseeing its entire research activities in this field and leading a team of analysts based in the UK, US, Germany, Spain, Japan, India and China. Ash has been involved in research for more than 10 years, being an active commentator on the industry since then. He was responsible for establishing the PV research group in early 2006 and growing the team to 15 analysts. Ash also manages an analyst team focused on energy storage and smart grid topics. IHS’ client base consists of more than 400 companies active in the solar industry and our team provides detailed and meaningful data, analysis and insight to support critical decision making.
  Timothy King  
Timothy Kim - US Export-Import Bank of the United States
Timothy Kim is a founding member and current Senior Loan Officer in the Renewable Energy & Environmental Finance Division at US Export-Import Bank in Washington, DC. In this capacity, he originates and structures credits across the broad spectrum of the industry including solar, wind and gasification projects.

Previously, he worked in the Bank’s Trade Finance Division, where he underwrote sovereign and corporate deals in the oil and gas, mining, agriculture and infrastructure sectors. His past experience also includes structuring project finance transactions at KfW IPEX-Bank (Power, Water and Utilities), and managing private equity deals as an Investment Manager at Connective Capital GmbH, both in Frankfurt, Germany.
  Vahid Fotuhi  
Vahid Fotuhi - President, Middle East Solar Industry Association (MESIA)
Vahid Fotuhi is the President of the Middle East Solar Industry Association (MESIA), the largest solar trade organization in the MENA region. Through MESIA, Vahid helps to grow the region’s solar
industry by crea9ng linkages between policy-makers, academia and the private sector.

From 2009 until 2012, Vahid was the regional director for BP Solar Middle East, the region ’s largest stand-alone solar systems provider. Prior to that role, Vahid was based in Algeria where he was in charge of Government Affairs for BP’s oil and gas division. He also oversaw the installation of the country’s first commercial scale solar-diesel hybrid power plant.

Previously, Vahid held senior-level positions with Energy Intelligence, World Economic Forum and Transparency International Vahid has a Masters degree in International Relations from Johns Hopkins
University in Washington DC and a Bachelors degree in History from McGill University, Canada.
  Abe Tarapani  
Abe Tarapani - VP, Global Strategy, Business Development & Operations
Abe Tarapani manages Astonfield’s global strategy, technical partnerships and market development efforts. In this capacity he works with national and local governments to advocate for enabling renewable energy policies and regulations, and to identify and develop projects where Astonfield can invest in a country’s energy infrastructure. He also coordinates Astonfield’s approach to technology selection, as well as the development and maintenance of global technical partnerships.

Prior to joining Astonfield, Mr. Tarapani worked at Katzenbach Partners, a New York-based strategy consulting firm, where he advised Fortune 500 companies on implementing transformational change to their business models. In this capacity he worked with companies across Energy, Financial Services and Technology sectors. He also served as Katzenbach’s Interim Chief Financial Officer and Director of Strategy and Business Development. While at Katzenbach, Mr. Tarapani was recognized as one of the Top 30 Consultants Under 30 in the United States. Mr. Tarapani holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Yale University. In 2000 he was named a Presidential Scholar by the Clinton White House. In 2012 he was named a First Mover Fellow with the Aspen Institute in the United States. He is originally from the Virgin Islands in the Caribbean and now lives between New York City and Mumbai.
  Marwan Abdulaziz Janahi  
Marwan Abdulaziz Janahi - Executive Director, DuBiotech and EnPark
  Marwan Abdulaziz Janahi is the Executive Director of TECOM Investments’ Science Cluster. The cluster comprises of DuBiotech, a purpose built business park designed to drive the success of the life science industry, and ENPARK, a free zone dedicated to fostering the growth of the alternative energy and environmental industries. The science cluster provides unrivalled access to peer companies and regulators, significant industry knowledge and a state of the art real estate a platform for life science of sustainability businesses looking to trade in the Middle East.

Marwan’s objective is to foster the growth of DuBiotech and ENPARK in the UAE by bridging the gap between the private sector industry, government, and academia. As such, he has built a strong network of Government relationships with entities such as the Ministry of Health and the Dubai Municipality to facilitate the growth of the life science sector in UAE. This strategy has led to the significant achievement of signing an MOU signing with the MOH in Nov 2012.
  Hendrik Bohne  
Hendrik Bohne - Director of Sales – South East Asia & the Middle East
  Hendrik Bohne is responsible for the development of the South East Asian and Middle East markets for grid-connected PV Power Plants.

Hendrik began his career in the renewable energy sector as a business developer in the Indian hydro power market before moving to South East Asia to focus on the photovoltaic industry. During his assignment in the Middle East, he was tasked to develop the local market and was involved in the design & construction of the first PV power plant installation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Since then, Hendrik has been instrumental in developing Conergy’s 10 large scale solar parks in Thailand and first solar project in the Philippines.Hendrik holds a Bachelor’s degree in Product Design Engineering from the College of Groningen, Netherlands and a Masters in Business & Engineering for Sales & Product Engineering from the University of Applied Science in Furtwangen.
  Matt Merfert  
Matt Merfert - Director of Projects at First Solar - Middle East and Africa
  Matt has over 10 years of experience working exclusively in the engineering, procurement, and construction of utility scale solar photovoltaic power plants, in the capacity of field technical advisory, then site supervisor, construction manager, project manager, and now projects director. Matt joined First Solar in 2009 as Project Manager for the 48MWac Copper Mountain project, which was awarded by Renewable Energy’s as the 'Solar Project of the Year' in 2011 and Power Magazine’s 'Top Plant' of 2012. Prior to that, he was the project manager of the 25MW DeSoto tracker project in Florida. Both were the largest PV power plants in the United States at the time of construction. Matt holds Electrical and General Engineering Contractor licenses, is certified by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP), and belongs to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He has managed the development and execution of over 20 utility-scale solar PV power plant projects in various international and environmental settings, ranging from 1MW to 500MW. His most recent project was the 13MW first phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai.
  Javier Lopez Cavajal  
Javier Lopez Cavajal - Renewable Energy Product Manager for Middle East in Tractebel Engineering
  Renewable Energy Product Manager for Middle East in Tractebel Engineering. MSc in Industrial Engineering and project manager with 13 years of experience in the power and industry sectors. Prior to my present position, I participated in several renewable energy projects in Europe and Africa: MASEN’s technical advisor for Ouarzazate phase 1 (Morocco), Owner Engineer project manager of parabolic trough CSP plants in Spain, project engineer of bioethanol plants in UK and Germany, detailed engineering of the first tower CSP plant in the world (PS-10, Abengoa)
Dr. Moritz Borgmann - Principal, Apricum – The Cleantech Advisory
  Dr. Borgmann has considerable experience in the renewable energy sector, particularly in the solar industry. At Apricum, he is the key lead for projects along the entire value chain of the solar industry, with a specific focus on strategy and technology, as well as mergers & acquisitions.

Before working at Apricum, Dr. Borgmann was the cofounder and member of the management board of semiconductor company Celestrius AG.

Dr. Borgmann holds a PhD from ETH Zurich and a master’s degree from Stanford University, both in electrical engineering.

Imtiaz Mahtab - Advisory Board Member, Saudi Arabian Solar Industry Association; Regional Managing Director, Air Liquide Electronics
  Imtiaz Mahtab is currently Regional Managing Director of Electronics at Air Liquide Middle East & North Africa, and an executive member of its MENA management team. Imtiaz has over 18 years of executive leadership roles internationally in the management of businesses in industrial gas, Energy and High Technology sectors. He is currently on the advisory board of various Renewable Energy and High Technology startups in the MENA region including KSA, and has been actively involved in the ecosystem development of the related sectors together with various stakeholders (Regulators, Investors, University, R&D, OEMs, EPC...).

Steve Mercieca - CEO Clean Energy Business Council and Director at Standard Chartered Bank
  Steve Mercieca is a Director with Standard Chartered Bank’s regional Project and Export Finance team in Dubai, UAE. Primary responsibilities include origination and execution of project and export finance deals and advisories in the Middle East and Africa across the power, water and renewable energy sectors. Prior to this, Steve was part of the Renewable Energy team at Standard Chartered Bank in London for a number of years covering amongst others, wind, solar, hydro, and carbon globally with a particular focus on Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Steve is the CEO of the Clean Energy Business Council and holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Southampton, UK.
Nicolas Jalby - Director, EKO Instruments
  Nicolas Jalby is Sales Manager at EKO Instruments Europe based in the Hague, Netherlands. This subsidiary of the Japanese EKO Corporation covers Europe, Middle-East, Africa as well as South America.

As a specialist in environmental monitoring technologies he knows all aspects of meteorological sensors and their application into the renewable energy field. Having graduated in France, he has previously been working as Sales Manager for Europe at G. Lufft Mess- und Regeltechnik GmbH in Germany before joining EKO Instruments.

In the field of solar power, instrumentation is key to the choice of technologies (PV, CPV, CSP), the location of the installation, as well as the optimization of the existing systems. Therefore, his clients are major companies and research institutes in the field of photovoltaic energy or instrumental meteorology.

Together with its partner Ammonit, a pioneer in wind and sunenergy monitoring, EKO presents it’s solar radiation sensors and measuring solutions at booth # MF25.and holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Southampton, UK.
Peter Styles, Board Member and Director of Electricity, European Federation of Energy Traders
  Peter Styles is principal consultant in Stratos Energy Consulting. He advises clients on many aspects of the European electricity and gas markets, especially wholesale trading and market design, applicable European Union (EU) legislation and resulting national regulation. Since 2000 Peter has been a Board Member of the European Federation of Energy Traders (EFET) and Chairman of the Electricity Committee of EFET. Since 2010 he has been an Honorary Associate at Dundee University,where he is attached to the Global Faculty. His career in the 1980s and 1990s encompassed project work in upstream oil and gas, power plant development, the management of a gas pipeline business and the establishment of the first and largest pan-European energy trading business.

Through the parent company of Stratos Energy Consulting, Stratos European Policy Limited, Peter offers advisory services in relation to European legislation, policy and regulation affecting businesses and investors more generally. He has conducted market, competition and regulatory analysis, advised on the implications of proposed new legislation and acted as policy consultant for clients ranging from industry associations to hedge funds.
Dr. Michael Kraemer - Senior Associate, Taylor Wessing; Board Member and Legal Counsel, Emirates Solar Industry Association
  Michael is a German qualified lawyer and has been practicing in Dubai since 2005. He has been working with Taylor Wessing (Middle East) LLP since 2007 and coordinates the firm’s energy practice. Michael acts on behalf of several publicly listed as well as medium-sized companies focusing on renewable energy. 

Michael is particularly interested in environment related topics and is member of several groups which promote a more environmentally friendly lifestyle. He has published numerous articles and is a frequent speaker at conferences in the UAE and overseas on legal matters related to renewable energy. Michael is a member of the board of the Emirates Solar Industry Association (ESIA) and currently serves as its legal director.
